Gerald Francis

In The Cendovian, Gerald is a loving father to Quinn and loving husband to Pari. He is always patient with Quinn, even when she is not patient with anyone, especially herself. Sympathetic to her plight, he steadily prodded her to open up over the years about her feelings. Though progress came slowly, he knew over time reason would prevail and Quinn would see the light.

Reason is Gerald's guiding light. A pure academician at heart, he loves puzzles, thought exercises, and hypotheticals. His job as an economics professor at Berkeley suits him well. Philosophy and all things social sciences are fascinating to him. On the topic of digital transcendence, he is concerned that it would upend fundational assumptions at the heart of all societies. Such assumptions includd the inevitability of death, the singularlity of identity, and the finite nature of resoures.

At Richard and Pari's suggestion, Gerald joins The Refactor Institute, a think tank Richard founds to explore the ethics of artificial intelligence. The matter soon becomes far less academic to Gerald as Richard and Pari's work begin to reveal real-world implications for his friends and family.
